FAQ

Aluminium windows and doors: your questions, answered.

RA HOUSE is a premium aluminium windows and doors dealership and an official partner of Reynaers, Aluprof and Yawal. Here are straight answers to the questions we hear most: aluminium vs PVC, price, energy performance, security, colours, delivery and installation.

Choosing aluminium

Are aluminium windows worth it?

Yes, if you want large glass, slim frames and a long lifespan. Aluminium windows typically last 40 to 50 years, compared with around 25 to 30 years for PVC, and the strength of aluminium allows narrower profiles and bigger glazing. If you only need standard-sized windows on a tight budget, PVC can be the better choice.

How much more do aluminium windows cost than PVC?

Aluminium usually costs about 30 to 50% more than an equivalent PVC solution. The exact difference depends on size, system, glazing and colour. Aluminium is worth the extra if you want large glazing, slim profiles, big sliding doors, a modern look and minimal maintenance.

How long do aluminium windows last?

Around 40 to 50 years. Aluminium does not rust or rot, and it resists UV light, rain, wind and temperature swings. Seals and hardware may need servicing over the years, but the frame itself usually stays.

Aren't aluminium windows cold?

Not when they are thermally broken. Modern aluminium profiles have an insulating polyamide barrier between the outer and inner parts, so heat does not pass straight through the frame. With good glazing, aluminium systems reach very low U-values, including passive house level.

Aluminium or PVC windows: which is better?

Neither is better for every project. Aluminium wins on strength, slim sightlines, large glass areas, colour choice and lifespan. PVC wins on upfront price for standard-sized windows. Choose aluminium for large openings, a modern design and long-term value.

Aluminium or wooden windows?

Wood gives a warm, natural look but needs regular repainting or oiling. Aluminium needs very little maintenance and allows bigger glass areas and slimmer frames, in a wide choice of colours.

Are aluminium windows sustainable and recyclable?

Yes. Aluminium can be recycled again and again without losing quality, and recycling it takes only a fraction of the energy needed to make new metal. Reynaers and Aluprof also work with low-carbon aluminium and publish environmental data for their systems.

What is low-carbon aluminium, and what is an EPD?

Low-carbon aluminium is made with a much smaller carbon footprint, for example with recycled content or renewable energy. An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a verified document that states the environmental impact of a product. Ask us for the EPD of the system you are considering.

What is a thermal break in aluminium windows?

A thermal break is an insulating barrier, usually made of polyamide, placed between the outer and inner parts of an aluminium profile. It stops heat from passing straight through the metal, which keeps the frame warm inside, reduces heat loss and helps prevent condensation. All the systems we supply for living spaces are thermally broken.

Systems and brands

What does RA HOUSE do?

RA HOUSE is a premium aluminium windows and doors dealership based in Latvia, and an official partner of Reynaers, Aluprof and Yawal. We supply aluminium windows, sliding and entrance doors, curtain walls, partitions, pergolas, roller shutters, insect screens and sun shading systems to architects, developers, contractors and private homeowners, with full-cycle service from specification and quote to delivery.

Which aluminium systems does RA HOUSE supply?

From Aluprof we supply the MB series windows and doors, Skyroll screen systems, roller shutters, insect screens and OpenSky pergolas. From Reynaers we supply MasterLine, ConceptSystem, SlimLine, ConceptPatio and curtain wall systems. Entrance doors come from Yawal.

What is the difference between Reynaers, Aluprof and Yawal?

All three are established European aluminium system houses. Reynaers, from Belgium, is known for premium window, door and sliding systems such as MasterLine and SlimLine. Aluprof, from Poland, offers a wide range of windows, doors, roller shutters and shading. Yawal, also from Poland, is strong in entrance doors and façades. We help you choose the one that fits your project.

What is the difference between MasterLine 8 and SlimLine 38?

MasterLine 8 is a high-performance Reynaers window and door system, with Uw values as low as 0.85 W/m²K depending on configuration. SlimLine 38 is a steel-look system with very slim sightlines, for a minimal, industrial style. Your choice depends on whether energy performance or the slimmest possible frame matters more to you.

What is MasterLine 10?

MasterLine 10 is the Reynaers system built for passive-level performance. It suits very energy-efficient houses and projects with demanding insulation requirements.

What is the Aluprof MB series?

The MB series is Aluprof's family of aluminium window, door, sliding and façade systems, for example MB-70, MB-79N and MB-86N. The number refers to the profile depth, and the systems differ in insulation level, sizes and design options.

What entrance doors do you offer?

Our aluminium entrance doors come from Yawal. They are available in flush and glazed designs, with grooves, glass inserts and recessed handles, in a wide range of colours. Send us a photo of the look you want and we will suggest a door.

Which system is right for my house?

It depends on your priorities. For the best energy performance, look at Reynaers MasterLine. For the slimmest steel-look frames, SlimLine. For large sliding doors, ConceptPatio or the Aluprof sliding systems. Tell us about your project and we will recommend a system and prepare a quote.

What is a curtain wall?

A curtain wall is a lightweight aluminium and glass facade that hangs from the building structure and does not carry the building's load. It is used for offices, apartment buildings and large glazed houses, and it lets you cover big areas with glass. Reynaers ConceptWall and Aluprof MB facade systems are examples.

Performance and security

What is a U-value (Uw)?

The Uw value shows how much heat a window loses, measured in W/m²K. The lower it is, the better the insulation. Around 1.1 W/m²K is the Latvian standard for residential buildings, and 0.8 W/m²K or lower is passive house level.

What U-values can aluminium windows reach?

It depends on the system, window size and glazing. Reynaers MasterLine 8 reaches as low as 0.85 W/m²K depending on configuration, and passive house levels are possible with the right system and triple glazing.

Do I need triple glazing?

Not always. Double glazing meets many requirements. Triple glazing loses less heat and is common in energy-efficient and passive houses, but it adds weight and cost. We advise on it based on your climate, the orientation of the window and your budget.

How soundproof are aluminium windows?

Sound insulation depends mostly on the glass. Laminated or asymmetric glass reduces noise better, and the frame and installation also matter. A finished window usually insulates slightly less than the glass alone. If you live near a busy road, tell us and we will specify the glazing for it.

How secure are aluminium windows and doors?

Aluminium is a strong material and works well with multipoint locking. Many systems can be specified to burglary-resistance class RC2 with the right hardware and glazing. Tell us if you need a higher security level, since it depends on the system.

Will my aluminium windows get condensation?

Condensation comes mainly from high humidity indoors and shows up first on the coldest surface. Well-insulated windows with warm-edge spacers are less prone to it. Ventilate regularly, especially in new, airtight houses.

Are aluminium windows airtight and watertight?

Yes. Quality systems use multiple seals and built-in drainage, and they are tested for air permeability, water tightness and wind load. Correct installation matters as much as the window itself.

Can aluminium windows be used near the sea?

Yes. Aluminium does not rust, and a quality powder-coat finish protects it. Near the coast, salt in the air is more aggressive, so tell us the location and we will specify a suitable finish. Rinse the frames with fresh water from time to time.

How do I stop large windows from overheating my house in summer?

Combine the right glass with external shading. Solar-control glazing reduces the heat that enters, and external shading such as Skyroll screens or roller shutters stops the sun before it reaches the glass. This works better than blinds inside, and it is especially important for south and west facing glazing.

What do Ug and g-value mean for glazing?

The Ug value is the heat loss through the glass alone, and the g-value is how much solar energy passes through it. A low Ug keeps heat in during winter. A lower g-value keeps heat out in summer, and a higher one lets in more free solar warmth. The right balance depends on the orientation and the use of each room.

Design, colours and sizes

What colours are available for aluminium windows and doors?

You can choose from more than 400 RAL colours and different surface finishes. Ask us about textured and wood-effect options for your system.

Can the inside and outside be different colours?

Yes. Aluminium profiles can be painted in one colour outside and another inside, for example anthracite outside and white inside.

How slim can aluminium window frames be?

Very slim. Slim systems such as Reynaers SlimLine 38 have narrow sightlines that give you more glass and less frame. The exact frame width depends on the system and the opening type.

Which opening types are available?

Depending on the system: tilt-and-turn, casement, tilt, top-hung, fixed, sliding, lift-and-slide and folding. You can combine fixed and opening parts in one window.

What is the difference between sliding, lift-and-slide and folding doors?

A sliding door glides on a track beside a fixed pane. A lift-and-slide door lifts slightly off its seals, so large, heavy panes move smoothly and close tightly. A folding door has panels that fold to the side to open the full width of the wall.

What is the maximum size of a window or sliding door?

It depends on the system, the weight of the glass and the opening type. Large fixed panes and sliding doors are possible, and very large units need structural checks. Send us the dimensions and we will tell you what is possible.

Can aluminium windows have special shapes?

Yes, aluminium allows a wide choice of sizes, shapes and opening types. Whether a special shape is possible depends on the system, so send us a drawing or a photo.

What are steel-look windows and doors?

Steel-look windows and doors copy the slim, industrial style of classic steel frames, with thin profiles and often multiple glass panes. Aluminium systems such as Reynaers SlimLine 38 give you this look with better insulation, lower maintenance and lower cost than real steel.

Price and quote

How much do aluminium windows cost?

There is no single price, because it depends on the system, size, glazing, colour, opening type and installation. As a guide, aluminium costs about 30 to 50% more than an equivalent PVC solution. For an accurate number, send us your project and we will prepare a quote.

How do I get a quote?

Send a request through the quote form on our website. Tell us which products you need, the number of openings, the project location and the timing, and we will come back with a quote.

What do you need to prepare a quote?

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details are plans or drawings, a list of openings with approximate sizes, the system or look you prefer, the colour, special glazing needs, the project location and your timing.

Do you work with architects, developers and contractors?

Yes. We supply aluminium windows, sliding and entrance doors, curtain walls, partitions, pergolas, roller shutters, insect screens and sun shading systems to architects, developers and contractors, as well as to private homeowners.

Delivery, installation and care

What is the process from first enquiry to installation?

There are four steps. First a consultation, where we learn about your building, taste and budget and suggest the right system. Then measuring and design, with exact measurements, colour and glazing choices and a clear offer. Then production, and finally installation by trained installers, with support after handover.

How long do production and delivery take?

It depends on the system, size, colour and the season. We confirm the production and delivery time in your offer, so you can plan your project.

Where do you deliver?

We supply projects across Europe, including Latvia and the UK, with full-cycle service from specification and quote to delivery. If your project is elsewhere, including the USA, contact us and we will tell you what is possible.

Where are the windows made?

RA HOUSE has its own factory in Ulbroka, Latvia, and we also work with the partner factories of Reynaers, Aluprof and Yawal. Everything is checked on arrival.

Can new aluminium windows replace my old windows?

Yes. Aluminium windows can replace old windows of any material. We take exact measurements of your existing openings first, and the new windows are made to fit them.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. The warranty terms depend on the product and system, and they are stated in your offer, so you know exactly what is covered.

How do I clean and maintain aluminium windows?

Wipe the frames with warm water and a mild detergent a few times a year, and avoid abrasive or solvent cleaners. Keep the drainage slots clear, and lubricate the hardware once a year. Aluminium does not need painting.

Sun shading and extras

What sun shading do you offer?

We supply Skyroll screens, roller shutters (top mounted, front mounted, flush mounted and anti-burglary), venetian blinds, insect screens and OpenSky pergolas. Most can be combined with your windows and doors.

What is Skyroll?

Skyroll is Aluprof's roller screen system for shading glazed areas. It reduces solar heat while keeping natural daylight. The Skyroll ZIP version locks the fabric into side guide channels, so it stays tight against insects and resists strong wind.

Do external roller shutters help against overheating?

Yes. External shading stops the sun before it reaches the glass, so it keeps rooms cooler than blinds inside. It can also add privacy, and anti-burglary versions add security.

What types of insect screens are available?

We supply fixed, swing, sliding, roll-up and pleated insect screens, so there is a solution for windows, doors and large openings.

What is an OpenSky pergola?

OpenSky is Aluprof's aluminium pergola system with an adjustable louvre roof. You tilt the louvres to let in sun or shade a terrace, and close them to shelter from rain.

WORD FROM THE FOUNDER
"Every project that comes to RA House gets the same level of care. It does not matter whether it is a single door or a full development package."
For many of our clients this is their home, their investment, or their professional reputation on the line.
We understand that weight, and we take it seriously.

Building this company has meant putting everything I know and care about into one place. The experience, the relationships, the attention to detail. I started RA House because I believed clients deserved better coordination, better communication, and someone who genuinely stays accountable throughout. That has not changed and it will not.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. I hope we get the chance to work together.
Warm regards,
Romans Antonovs
